Portable systems “Plug´n´Free”:

Designed, developed and made in New Zealand this doesn’t only makes off-grid installations cheaper and faster, this opens a door for complete new applications of solar power. The “Plug´n´Free” system brings power everywhere you find a sun exposed flat surface. It is built rock solid and solves all problems of components integration. Beyond the first hassle free solution on the market is that its super flexible and can be upgraded, downgraded, moved any times. All this does not fall short in any point of a fixed installed system – not even in cost.

The standard “Plug´n´Free” portable system is a cost reducing downgrade of our fully mobile trailer systems and is designed to power a typical tiny home, site office, batch or any other application where solar power with a low power profile is requested.  But this is not the limitation; there is no reason to scale up to size of all categories. The design allows to add modules to create much bigger systems, either combining the standard units in a micro grid or by initially installing stronger components. Another interesting application would be to power irrigation systems or remote telecom sites. Our portable solution is designed under strict cost management focussing on affordability over mobility but no compromise in quality. If you want to connect to the mains and thinking about backfeeding, we implement NZ4777 compliant components to create hybrid systems or ordinary grid-tied systems. If cost matters, we can install cheaper Chinese components.

Our “Plug´n´Free” systems are not just a solar panel holder or an off-grid system patched into a ply box. Its addressing all problems that need to be thought about when running off-grid power all year round at all whether conditions. We have designed the layout to resist wind, keep the batteries not just warm in the winter but also cool in the summer. Air can come in but insects and water stays out. Additional dust filters are not standard but can be installed. It comes with easy access to the sockets and breakers for simple use. It allows to lock your sockets and cables but keeps safety switches accessible at all times. At the moment, we are developing a cost reduced version (replacing the Off-grid.nz components with a 5kW Growatt inverter) that we can suggest for rather infrequently used e.g. in weekend houses, daytime workshops or site offices for NZD 11k. If we would change from our lead-carbon batteries to gel or AGM, we would be able to even further lower the price. Our OG lithium batteries or sodium ion batteries allowing more battery capacity with lower weight. For export to Australia, we would change the passive cooling logic into a computer controlled active heating/cooling approach.

Limitations:

This systems require very well sun exposure on ground level, level ground and must be safe of any flooding. It is designed to withstand higher wind loads but it is within the customer’s responsibility to limit wind damages (insurance). It is recommended to keep the vegetation low in and around the system.

Flexibility to its maximum:

The “Plug´n´Free” systems are built modular and can be shipped as a kit-set. That allows to add/remove/swap components to build your system to your needs or adapt later following your changes. If you find your system has not enough power, you can either add/swap modules to increase the power of the weak link or you can connect two smaller systems to run as one big. All systems can be supported with a generator of up to 9kW (40A). The technical limit of a single system is 64kW and if build as a microgrid extendable unlimited.

Portability: Our workshop build systems are developed to full maturity. Our “Plug´n´Free” systems can follow your plans and move with you as easy as your tiny home or site office or follow your demand of life.

Safety:

No one wants to risk an electrical hazard or a fire. All used components are relying on fire retardant material, top quality components, clever internal design and safety features. Compliance is not our concern – we do set a standard.

The system can be shut down at any times with the implemented and easy accessible isolators.

1. Main AC-OFF / Emergency AC isolation

2. Solar DC-OFF

3. Battery DC-OFF

We suggest to use the intrinsically safe lead-carbon batteries over the fire susceptible lithium batteries unless for a good reason. We would then offer LFP or LiIo batteries with medical grade BMS to keep the risk of fire as low as possible and house them in a steel box.

Having the complete system fully detached from any building is another safety feature intrinsically “build-in” by its design.

Cost:

We make it easy for you to make your payment. You can buy, rent to buy or rent.

If you are new to the off-grid world, you might need to figure out what an off-grid system can and can not. Here we suggest the rental offer that allows you to test with no risk. If your project is finished, you quit renting and walk away.

It starts with the 48V 4kW system, 120Ah lead carbon battery and 2200W solar for only NZD14,000 ex workshop.

Solar and frame:

solar panels: 4 (or 6)  x550W – $500 per panel =$2000 for 2200W

frame from H3 and H4 timber: including rails to hold 4x550W = $1200

optional paint: $200 (high quality primer and paint)

complete: $3400

Electronic bay:

Inverter: Off-grid.nz 4k – $3000

Charge controller: MPPT150/70: $650

Shunt: $300

Display: $250

Multi chambered IP65 box, paint, insulation, ducting, fans, sensors, sockets, breakers, isolators, relays and installation: $2600

OG.NZ Smart Relay Module  (SRM-freely programmable relays for advanced switching logics):

Stand alone, build in version with 4 relays and USB connected LED indicator display: $500

Complete module:  $7000 (can be used to connect to solar panels mounted elsewhere)

Batteries: 6-EVF-100 (120Ah at C10) Narada lead carbon batteries: $500 each – minimum 4; recommended 8 =$4000

or

Narada 6REXC300 (250Ah at C10) lead carbon $750 each – minimum 8 = $6000

or

Growatt 5000ES incl WiFi: $1999 incl charge controller and display

This starter price system does not fall short in any of the functionality, which are:

  • 2x automated excess power sockets with USB charger sockets (provides power whenever batteries are full)

  • 16A caravan socket

  • 15A regular socket

  • All in a lockable galvanized and weather proof steel box

  • Generator input of up to 16A – auto generator start (2-wire) is possible

  • Emergency AC-Off isolator

  • Solar DC isolator and 200A battery DC breaker

  • Ready for another 2200(/3300)W frame for NZD3200 or you connect an external array on (must match voltage).

The starter system is already enough to power a site office but we recommend to look at the designed case with 3300W solar and the 6REXC300 battery (250Ah at 48V=12kWh capacity) for NZD21k.

Many upgrades are possible due to its modularity from 8kW inverter, more solar power, size of the frame itself to host 2, 4 or 6 panels of 550W each and battery capacity can be upgraded up to 2000Ah with even 60V (2000Ah x 60V=120kWh capacity!). Our lithium battery comes with 14.3kWh capacity whereby 1okWh usable. More lithium battery modules can be implemented to increase storage to 20 or 30kWh.

We also can customise the interfaces, 2-wire auto start, excess power scheme and much more. Our OG.NZ SRM allows cutting edge connectivity and energy management tasks. We can connect Wifi, LAN or Bluetooth and you get access via your smart phone anywhere anytime.

Solar Trailer:

Our solar trailer is in its last development phase and comes with 3600W in its smallest version. The trailer addresses the professional market and is way more robust built and designed to withstand transportation with no relocation inspection. The trailer is build on galvanised steel and also requires a more sophisticated thermal management system. All that comes for its price that makes the solar trailer a rather a commercial or a premium product. Commercial interest please send us an email and we can discuss the options.

In production:

3600W AC coupled solar panels

more frames from the Plug’n’Free systems can be added into the additional 80A charge controller

2x4kW=8kW inverter, 8kW auto-start Petrol generator allows a maximum continuous output of 16kW (!) at full sun

280Ah OG.NZ LFP battery with 14.4kWh capacity

Bluetooth BMS
